WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) —
Police said a suspect is in custody after a woman’s body was found in West Philadelphia.
Cole Swaringer-Herring, 23, of the 200 block of S.49th Street was arrested and charged with murder, arson, abuse of a corpse and related offenses after police say he stabbed a woman more than 50 times then set her on fire.
Officers were on the scene in the 200 block of South 49th Street late Tuesday morning. They said they discovered a dead woman under a pile of leaves in the rear of a building.
Police sources tell Action News that the suspect showed up at his parents’ house and told them he had killed a woman.
Officers were then directed to the lot where they discovered the body of a woman in her 20s.
The suspect remained on the scene when police arrived. He lives in the apartment building at the location.
Police are in the process of charging the suspect. They believe he met the victim on social media.
Investigators are working to identify the victim.
